Unique, large and original Barong mask - 110 cm. The mask is made of wood carvings and is of course painted by hand. Bali is known for its many colourful masks that are originally used to ward off evil spirits and guide the dead to the kingdom of heaven. However impressive the appearance of these masks are, they have very good intentions. Often these have large hairdo's made of fringed rope, horse hair or coconut fibres. This makes the masks even more scary. Many exotic masks were used in all kinds of ritual activities and some of them are hundreds of years old. Original, authentic Barong mask from Bali, Indonesia. Dimensions: Total length is 110 cm. The wooden mask is approx. 32 cm x 27 cm x 18 cm. Weighs more than 1 kilogram. Mid 20th century. The mask is old and in very good condition (see the photos). Please note: The condition is not perfect and shows traces of use and wear and tear. One of the teeth has been replaced later and the mask has a small restoration on top. An asset for every collector or as a decorative eye-catcher in any interior. Carved out of a singe piece of wood. The whole is nicely finished off.
