Amorales creates stunning installations like "Black Cloud" adorning the walls and ceiling of exhibition spaces with a swarm of paper black butterflies of different sizes.
According to an examination conducted by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, his work is possibly a reference to biblical pests, indicating Amorals' tendency "towards ideas," where the boundaries between beauty and wonder, good and evil. The calm and calamity are constantly blurred and where imagination prevails."
His solo exhibitions include: Germinal, Museo Rufino Tamayo, Mexico (2013); La Langue des Morts, Yvon Lambert Gallery, Paris, France (2012); Carlos Amorales, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome (2010); Four Animations, Five Drawings and a Plague, Philadelphia Museum of Art (2008); New perspectives in Latin American Art, MoMA, New York (2007); Amorales vs. Amorales, Challenge 2003, Tate Modern, Londres (2003). He also participated in biennials such as Manifesta 9 (Belgium, 2012), La Habana (2009), Performa, New York (2007); Berlin (2001) and Venice (2003).
He currently participates in the Exhibition "Narrativas Culturales" curated by Bruno Leitcao at the Paula Alonso Gallery in Madrid. The conversation is part of the show's program as a dissident of the concept of appropriation and interpretation.
His work is part of the collections Jumex (Mexico), Tate Modern (London), The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Daros Latin America (Zurich), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis) and Museum Boijmaans van Beunigen (Rotterdam), among others.
