Jan Schoonhoven was a Dutch artist. From 1930 to 1934 he studied at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague.
Together with the artists Armando, Henk Peeters, and Jan Henderikse, he founded the Zero group, in the 1960s, which opposed Cobra and aimed for objective art.
At the beginning of his career Schoonhoven especially made abstract drawings and watercolours. From 1955 monochrome white reliefs arose. From 1978 many drawings: with lines, dots and shading he drew partly expressive style, almost calligraphic, pen and brush drawings.
Work of Schoonhoven is in numerous public collections and was shown at many exhibitions national and internationally.
